(It’s a looking mirror and this art is known as Mirror Engraving)

In this painting the artist have shown a scene of Queen’s Palace where two Queens along with their maidservants are halfnude and having wine and enjoying the pleasure of homosexuality with each other in absence of their king. In ancient India, homosexual activity itself was ignored or stigmatized as inferior but never actively persecuted. Historically, lesbian activity has always been seen as dictated by a woman’s circumstances, that is the absence of a male partner, and not a matter of personal choice. In harems where many women lived in absence of men. They had only one king and were not allowed to make relations with other men, what the queens had was just one king, preoccupied with affairs of state, to go around. So this was one of the major reason for homosexuality among themselves for satisfaction. They also used bulbs, candles, roots etc. Another reason was when the king used to go for wars he could not attend his queens for long time and that’s why to fulfill their lust the Queens used to make physical relations between themselves.
